Leave me alone…

“Noise is the most impertinent of all forms of interruption. It is not only an interruption, but is also a disruption of thought.”
Arthur Schopenhauer (1788 – 1860)
My Saturday hOmowner Reinvestment Endeavor (S.O.R.E.) this weekend was completed outside. Specifically, I was building a garden fence in front of the house for aesthetic reasons and just because I have always wanted the cliché ‘picket fence’ which every full blooded American single family is required to have by law. My problem, (yes, there is always a problem in any of my projects) is that the front of my house is the worst place to build something due to all the people walking nearby. Everyone who passed by could not resist the urge to either complement or critique it, thus extending my one day project into at long, tedious, disruptive weekend wasted on conversations.
Here is a list of comments which were overheard.
- A fence that small won’t stop anyone… unless maybe your a midget.
- Why are you building a fence anyway?
- Dad, you can’t dig a hole there… that is where i planted my flowers two years ago.
- Your gonna paint that when your through right?… I like white. (from a complete stranger)
- You need a permit for that you know.
Although it took both of my days off to complete, it was well worth it in the end and I plan on asking for tomorrow off from work so I can at least have one day of relaxation.

would you be willing to outline how to build a fence, over the phone, to josh? LOL. we need to build a doggy-proof fence near our cliff before we bring the pup home.

I think a few before and after shots of the facade of the house would do nicely here. It looks hella different from 5 years ago.

I think it is just beautiful and gives the place a quaint look.

I think you did an amazing job Rob! We paid a small fortune for someone to do ours! Wish we’d have known you were a fence-builder! lol And “conversations with friends” is never a waste of time. You always either learn or ‘give’ something. Good job!
